The Miracle Pot...No NOT that type!!

Ah it is so good to be able to breathe again! I am a 100% recovered from the cold from hell thanks to this. Yes, it sounds/looks disgusting because it IS disgusting, but in a good way.

Last week when I was grocery shopping I ran into a fellow yoga teacher from the YMCA. I must have sounded and looked pretty nasty because she took me over to the holistic section and showed me a Neti Pot. When she was explaining it to me I was horrified and skeptical all at the same time, but I was also desprate. My nose looked like sandpaper, my head felt like it was 10x's it size and the nastiness coming out of my nose could have been on Ripley's Believe It or Not. So I bought one. It was the BEST purchase ever!!

When I got home I tried it. Suddenly I could breathe. It was wonderful. The Neti Pot is a wonder and if you are brave enough to try it, try it! You won't regret it especially if you have a cold or nasty sinus problems.

Holy Doughnuts Batman!

Being sick for over a week has really pissed me off and this morning I wanted something fried to soothe my last nerve. And what I wanted was doughnuts! So I mixed up a batch of vegan cake doughnuts. I have to say I am very impressed with myself for these hit the spot. They were a little dense, but hey, they are a cake doughnut! They had a nice crunch with a hint of cinnamon and nutmeg with just a little sprinkle of powdered sugar. It was love at first bite.

Ingredients:

2 cups flour
1/2 cup sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
a pinch of nutmeg
2 tablespoons Earth Balance butter melted
1/2 cup soy milk
Egg replacer for one egg

Heat oil in deep fryer to 375

Sift flour, sugar, salt, baking powder, cinnamon and nutmeg. Mix in butter until crumbly. Stir in soy milk and egg replacer. With floured hands, lightly knead the dough. Add a little more soy milk if you need to make the dough smooth. Turn onto area prepared with flour. Pat dough into 1/4 inch thickness. Dip either doughnut cutter - I used the rim of a floured coffee cup - to cut out doughnuts. Carefully drop doughnuts into the hot oil. Don't over crowed. Fry, turning once, for 3 minutes each side or until golden brown. Drain on paper towels or brow paper bag. Sprinkle with powdered sugar or cinnamon-sugar mix.

The 'boyz'

Here is a shout out to my boys. Willie and Echo wanted me to show them some love on my blog and put pictures up of their cute little furry butts.

Seriously, my cats are like dogs. The black one Echo will paw at you until you relent and pet him and/or let him our your lap. Here they are both trying to squeeze on Bill's lap for some scritches. Willie doesn't look to pleased to be sharing.

This is their favorite past time. We have an outside camera set-up so we can watch the birds on the feeder (we like to enjoy nature from indoors). Anyway, the cats LOVE BirdTV. Especially when there is a big fat Morning Dove sitting on top of the feeder. I wonder what they are thinking?
Willie: Damn! That thing is as big as I am!
Echo: I bet it tastes just like chicken.

Life has been a little crazy and it has caught up with me and kicked me in the ass. Hard. Never in my life have I ever had laryngitis. That is until today.

It all started on Sunday with a slight sore throat, by Tuesday it was a full blown cold. Yesterday I came home from work early and tried to find a sub to teach my yoga/pilates class. Couldn't find one so I taught the class sounding like an 80 yr. old 1-900 sex operator. Woke up this to morning to a very raspy voice that progressed to NO voice. The only good part of all this is the tea. Lovely, delicious tea. There is something magical about tea when you get sick. It is so comforting.

Anyone have any home cures for laryngitis I would love to hear them.

Okay, back to napping.

"Sweet Jesus" Rolls

Have you ever been to a restaurant and ordered a dessert that was so good that you actually moaned out loud? Okay, then try these Cinnamon Rolls, which I have named, Sweet Jesus Rolls because that is exactly what you are going to exclaim when you take a bite. Trust me. These things are like great sex; leaves you spent, but still wanting more.

Recipe is found here. Bjorkedoff blog - don't know what that means, but I don't care!

Warning: You may need a cigarette after eating one of these.

Holiday's were good. Always bittersweet to go home and see the family. Each year we miss my brother and think about him often. It is so hard to see his boys. Andy, the younger of the two, is so much like him. Just so outgoing, loving, funny and quick with a smile. This year it just blew me away how he really has his dad's spirit. Patrick, the older one, worries me. He is the spitting image of my brother, but he is so reserved. There has been talk about getting him tested. Breaks my heart to think about it.

Got Pa decked out in SU orange this year. He LOVED it. Check him out. He especially loved the crocks. God aren't they hideous! I knew they would be a hit. As far as I know, he has worn them everyday since he got them. Hee, hee. It just pisses my mother off to no end.

The look on my brother's face crack's me up.

Check out the back of the shirt!

Parents let me borrow there car for a night. That way Bill could take the van to his mom's to visit and I could drive right to may parent's to visit. Bill then picked me up in the evening at my parents. Worked out great, except for one thing. I forgot I put my parents keys in my purse. Yep. Mailed them back to Ohio a few days ago. Ah good times.

After 4 days of holiday fare, I had to have something green. When we got home I made a big bowl of Green Jade Soup from Moosewood Restaurant Cooks at Home. It was very good and soul restoring. I could feel my immune system getting a kick start.
Then I got How to Cook Everything Vegetarian and let me tell you. This book is HUGE and a mountain of information. Everything you need to know on how to prepare different veggie, tons of variations on recipes, etc. I love it, love it, love it. Thanks Jeff! And Nick! Both my brother's got me this for Christmas. They are the best. I gave my extra copy to Trac.

But the grand daddy of presents this year is this. Oh yea baby! A deep fryer. Bill is the best husband EVER. Or is he evil? Or both? I don't care!
So what was the first thing I made? Sweet potato fries. Little fries bits of fried heaven. Next on the agenda. Doughnuts and corn fritters!
