His and Hers

So my husband is not on board about going vegetarian for himself. That is okay. He supports me in my decision and we have decided that we will have to cook separately at times.

My dinner tonight. Pasta with a simple homemade sauce (tomato sauce, tomato juice, garlic, italian spices, a little brown sugar) and a salad with cucumbers and carrots.

My dear lovely husband's dinner that he made. Just looking at this makes me SO happy I went vegetarian. Nasty isn't it?

Oh come on now!!!! Why couldn't he have cooked up some sausage on the side and eaten the spaghetti with you? Does he have any idea how much sodium is in that plastic tray he ate? I don't know if I can handle you taking pictures of what he is eating.........

Oh, btw, your meal looks delish!

Man, just because he doesn't want to go veg doesn't mean he has to slowly commit suicide by junk food! Can you tell I'm incensed by your post???

Wow, that spaghetti with homemade sauce looks DELISH! Where in the world did you get a homemade sauce recipe? I'm making angel hair pasta with "neat balls" this week but don't particularly look forward to prego. :oP

Ah, yes I know of this dilema. My guy is not a veg either and we have some interesting comprimises at times. May I suggest you try using seitan in place of chicken for a meal you could both eat? It has an amazing meat-like texture and is made from wheat gluten. I've found that it sautes up nicely and absorbs all sorts of yummy flavors. :)
If you're feeling really daring you can make some up yourself. It's pretty easy once you find a store that carries the wheat gluten flour. I tried it a couple of weeks ago and it turned out ok. Best of all, I got Mr. Meatandpotatoes to eat it too in a stirfry!

Congratulations on your decision to go veggie! I'm a recent convert too and I'm really enjoying it. I'm cooking a lot more fresh food now and I feel so much better. Lookin forward to hearing about more of you culinary adventures.

I have been itching to try seitan. There was a recipe I saw for chicken fried seitan with gravy which would be right up my hubby's alley. If only I could get him to try it. Hopefully I can sneak a few meals in there for him to try.

It has only been a week and I feeling great too. Went to the store and bought most of my grocery's in the produce area...a total first for me!
